Trader to pay GH¢120 for biting another trader's eye

Takoradi, Dec. 2, GNA - A Takoradi Circuit Court on Thursday sentence= d Florence Obiyah, a trader, to a fine of GH¢120 or in default serve thre= e years in imprisonment for biting the right eye of Faalila Abdul Rahman. The court also asked the convict to pay GH¢800 as compensation to the complainant for the injuries she sustained. Prosecuting, Sergeant Seth Ahelegbe said both the complainant and th= e convict were traders at the Takoradi Market Circle. The prosecutor said on August 4, the complainant was going to visit a friend at Bankyease, a suburb of Takoradi and on reaching Pipe Ano, the convict who was on taxi cab, called the complainant and started hurling insults at her without any justification.

Sgt Ahelegbe said the complainant later went to the convict's stall on the same day to inquire why she insulted her in public, but this led to a=

quarrel between them and the convict attacked Rahman, biting her right ey= e, resulting in serious injuries. The prosecutor said the complainant reported the incident to the Takoradi Market Police Station and was issued with a medical form to seek=

medical attention. He said later, the convict was arrested and charged after investigations.
