Translation of Love-letter landed me in cells - Witness

Accra, June 15, GNA - Mr Clifford Godwin Tay an employee of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Waste Management Department on Tuesday said the translation of a love letter from English to French for a woman landed him at the Bureau of National Investigations cells. He said the woman; Madam Agbenu was introduced to him by his landlord as a friend, adding that she needed someone to help her translate a letter into French to send to a friend in Togo.

Mr Tay, who was then a Musician, said little did he know that the said letter was going to Togo's President Gnagsinbe Eyadema. He said Madam Agbenu and the landlord were first arrested adding that he was also arrested later by the BNI as an accomplice.

He said he spent 25 days in the cells after which he was given a self- recognisance bail, adding that this resulted in the loss of his musical recordings for which he had paid a producer in Togo to produce for him.

"All my tapes were destroyed and as I did not get money to produce the songs I'm now a rubbish collector," he said. Mr Tay, who said he was a Buddhist, retorted to an advice by the Commission to continue praying that he had stopped praying because his God could not save him when he was being punished for a crime he did not commit.
