Two watchmen charged with stealing

Tema, May 19, GNA- Two watchmen of a company and three others who stole 70 gallons of sanding sealer (used for wood paint) have been granted a total of 50 million cedis bail by the Tema circuit court "A".

Sampson Jerry Addo, Mohammed Abubakari and Humphrey Nai, factory hands, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing, while Yakubu Addramani and Karimu Osumani both watchmen faced charges of aiding and abetment and bribing two police constables.

They would reappear on June 6.

Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on April 7 2004, Addo, Abubakari and Nai who are employees of GemFood stole 70 gallons of sanding sealer valued at 8.5 million cedis.

She said Nai left for his house and in the evening of the same day, Addo and Abubakari came back to the factory with a taxi after close of work, where they met Addramani and Osumani who helped to load the items into a taxi and the driver drove to Osumani's house at community one. Chief Inspector Assunta said on April 8, police received information about the theft and arrested the accused persons.

The prosecution said Addramani and Osumani met the two policemen and offered them 395,000 cedis to leave the matter. They collected the money and arrested them.
