The UGSRC Judicial Board has issued an indefinite injunction on all electoral processes related to the 2024 University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council elections.

This decision follows a petition filed by Ghanaian musician, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, and his co-petitioners: Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah and Lawrence Edinam Egleh, challenging their disqualifications from the elections.

Guru was disqualified following the vetting of candidates for the 2024 UGSRC elections.

The disqualification, announced in a letter on August 16, 2024, was due to Guru and his running mate's non-resident status in the university.

As per Article 30(1)(a) of the UGSRC constitution, candidates for executive positions had to be resident students.

In response, Guru filed a petition questioning the constitutionality of this requirement, seeking to halt the upcoming elections.

As reported by the campus radio station, Radio Univers, on its X platform, after a hearing on August 23, 2024, at the SRC Union Building, University of Ghana, an injunction has been placed on the elections which were supposed to take place on Monday, August 26, 2024, halting it indefinitely.

Meanwhile, neither Guru’s camp nor any other affected parties have responded to this development.
