Unemployed man remanded for stealing handbag

Sekondi, Feb.27, GNA - Kwaku Amoah, unemployed, on Friday appeared before a Sekondi Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing a lady's handbag containing 95,000 cedis and other items valued at 26,000 cedis belonging to an apprentice hairdresser.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on March 29 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere, said on January 1 this year, Gifty Asiedu, an apprentice hairdresser in Takoradi hanged her handbag in front of her saloon.

Sgt. Okyere said when Asiedu came out of the saloon, she could not find the handbag and when she raised an alarm, an informant told her that, he saw a man throw away a polythene bag behind a nearby building and led Asiedu to the place.

Sgt. Okyere said the polythene bag was found at the spot and when it was opened, the money, angel cream, drugs, a pair scissors and a bunch of keys were found.

He said Asiedu reported the matter to the Takoradi Police and the accused who was in cells for committing another crime earlier, was identified.
