Accra, March 19, GNA - Theresa Awurama, unemployed, who bit off her foe's nose during a scuffle was on Thursday found guilty and sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Awurama, who pleaded guilty to charges of intentionally causing harm, would also pay an additional GH¢500.00 cedis as compensation to the victim, Mariama Abdulai.

Prosecution said Mariama would need to undergo plastic surgery in order to get a complete nose.

Chief Inspector Johnson K. Anim, the prosecutor, said Awurama and Mariama live at the Odawna Railway Station, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra.

Prosecution said it was alleged that one Daniel, Awurama's boyfriend before the incident, took Mariama's daughter to his house and brought her back the following day. Awurama, on hearing this, got angry and confronted Mariama over the kind of relationship that existed between her daughter and Daniel. This culminated in a scuffle and Awurama and her three friends assaulted Mariama.

Prosecution said on March 14, this year, Mariama and a witness in the case were going to the Neoplan Station when Awurama and her three friends picked another quarrel with her.

Mariama and the convict fought again and in the process, the convict bit part of her nose. A report was made to the Police at the Neoplan Station while Mariama was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted for two days. Prosecution said Awurama in her Caution Statement to the Police admitted the offence. 19 March 09
