University of Maryland Eastern Shore Jazz Ensemble Visits Ghana

Accra, May 17,GNA - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Jazz Ensemble would arrive in the country this week for a 10-day visit.

A statement in Accra by the Ghana Jazz Society on Tuesday said the group under the direction of Dr John R. Lamkin II would organise a free concert on Sunday May 22, supported by the Traditional African Instrumental Ensemble Hewale Sounds and a Jazz Optimist Concert on Saturday May 28.

Also performing at the concert would be the Master percussionist Okyerema Asante, Mac Tontoh and the Kete War.

The statement said the Jazz Society of Ghana, the major sponsor of the visit, would be formally launched during the jazz optimist concert. The Society is aimed at promoting and fostering the appreciation of jazz music in Ghana, and also hope to encourage young musicians to develop their talent for jazz music.
