Unknown assailants attack teacher at Hwidiem

Hwidiem (B/A) May 27, GNA- Unknown assailants have attacked a mathematics tutor of Hwidiem Secondary School in the Asutifi District of Brong Ahafo, causing injury on his head.

Narrating his story to the Ghana News Agency at Hwidiem, Mr. Emmanuel Demordzie said he was returning to his bungalow in the night of March 22, this year, in the company of another tutor, Mr. Emmanuel Dogbey, when they met two young men, one wearing a turban and the other in a mask.

He said as soon as the two men walked past them, the one in the mask turned round and suddenly hit him on the head with the fan belt of an articulated truck.

In the ensuing struggle with the assailant, he managed to seize the fan belt and took to his heels to join his accomplice who stood at a distance.

Mr. Demordzie said he reported the incident to the headmaster of the school, the assistant director in charge of second cycle institutions in the district and the police at Hwidiem. He said the police issued him with a medical form to attend St Elizabeth Catholic Hospital at Hwidiem, where he was treated and discharged.

The tutor said a preliminary disciplinary committee set up by the school to investigate the matter had quizzed some student suspects but had discharged them for lack of evidence. Mr. Demordzie said his ordeal took a different turn when he received a letter on April 15 purportedly written by his assailant asking for forgiveness.

In the letter, the tutor said the unknown assailant apologized for the incident, saying "I will be very happy if you will accept my apology and forgive me because the Bible states that we should forgive the sins of our neighbours so that God will also forgive us".
