Kumasi, Aug. 13, GNA - The Voltarian Co-ordinating Council (VCC) is to organise a grand cultural festival by the end of October in Kumasi as part of its programme to show case the rich culture and values of people of the Volta descent.
The festival, which would be jointly organised by the VCC and Council of Volta Chiefs in the Ashanti Region, would be held at Anloga, a suburb of Kumasi.
The festival would be dubbed "Amu Za" literally meaning a festival of unity.
Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chairman of the VCC said this at a meeting of the VCC in Kumasi on Thursday to discuss modalities for the successful holding of the festival.
According to Togbe Fugah, cultural displays, drumming and traditional dancing and the exhibition of indigenous dishes from the Volta Region would be part of the festival.
He said the decision to hold the festival stems from the fact that, many of those who have for long lived outside their hometowns in the Volta Region were virtually loosing sight of their culture and needed to be reminded of such values and practices.
''It is the plan of the VCC to hold such festival annually and also extend it to the remaining regions.''
