The Board for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has responded accordingly to concerns raised by the management of musician, Nii Funny, who is a nominee for the ‘Best New Artiste’ category for the 2017 edition of the awards.
This portal, www.entertainmentgh.com, has caught sight of a letter of response, dated March 15, 2017 and signed by the Board Chairman, Nii Ayite Hammond.
In the letter, the Board commended the management for the maturity it exhibited in its approach on the matter.
It went on to dispel any notion of bias to the advantage or otherwise of any nominee.
According to the Board, the selection of performers for Nominees Jam is dependent on the following;
Appeal of the artiste to patrons/targets in a particular event venue/region/area. (Organizers usually ask patrons who they like to see out of all the nominees) Availability of the artiste Cost elements.
Addressing the issue of videos and audio recorded by selected nominees, the Board stated that – on the videos or audio visuals, the production team usually do these videos even before nominations are finalized and released.
The letter also pointed out that, in 2016, Kofi Kinaata, as a nominee for ‘Best New Artist’ – did not perform at the launch of the awards and the Nominees Jam, but won the award.
However, in a rebuttal, Manager of the artist, Halifax Ansah-Addo, seemed unconvinced about the response and posted his thought on his facebook page, saying;
“The VGMA Board has replied my letter…Truth is, this is someone’s party. If you don’t like the menu, don’t partake. #LongWayToGo.”
