Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena says that it is time the state owned the Ghana Music Awards(GMA) as it has outgrown Charter House, the production house that has held this event down for 17 years.

In an interview with Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) on 360live on Live 91.9 FM, he said;

“Awards have outgrown Charter House, the reason is simple, the whole world is looking at it now as an event the brings the best Ghanaian musicians together and so it is time the state take it up as a national event and fund. So that no individual will own the right, in fact I prefer it being like a 5-day festival event so that we can showcase our arts and culture.”

“They have done well for holding it down for all this year's and I commend them for that. It is not an easy thing to put up something and hold it like there have done. I have tried it myself and it was not easy at all,” he continued.

Another reason he gave was that, if it becomes a state-owned event, every Government that comes into power will see it as a national treasure and would do everything possible to protect it and the interest of its musicians.

“Trust me if there should be any chaos in this country, we as musicians will have to churn out peace songs.”

The Tuamuda singer advised that if Charter House will continue to have the right to organize the awards scheme then the name GHANA should be taken off.
