The people of Nima were last Saturday given a rare treat by VIP, the top hiplife group who cleared five awards at the last Ghana Music Awards.

To show their appreciation to their neighbourhood who they believed supported them in their endeavours since they became musicians, the Goodies Music Productions, producers of VIP in association with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, organised a clean up exercise in the Nima and Maamobi areas.

The objective of the clean-up exercise was to interact with their fans, friends and relatives and to let them know that they are with them all the way.

Wearing T shirts with the inscriptions ?I got dirty with VIP, cleaning the hood with VIP?, members of the group, the fans and well wishers in the area and beyond, helped to clear drains, gutters and other dirty areas of the two suburbs.

With assistance from the Fire Service, the National Youth Council, the youth with their idols enthusiastically cleaned the two areas.

After the first part which was the clean-up, sound equipment was mounted by X-105 on a pay loader a few meters from the Nima footbridge, from where a number of hiplife artistes including Lady Bata, Tic Tac, and VIP entertained a huge crowd that patronised the event, effectively blocking one part of the road.

Also around to lend their support were Abrewanana, Ayisoba, Antwi ne Antwi and 4x4.

In a short address to the gathering, the Minister for Tourism and Mordenisation of the Capital City, Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, said the only thing VIP can do for their fans and the neighbourhood was to lead them positively as they had shown by undertaking the clean-up exercise.

He pointed out that VIP cannot give their numerous fans but will encourage them to take good care of themselves and asked the people to register to be able to vote in the next elections.

The Minister also congratulated the group and wished them all the best in their endeavours. He said he was happy that the group came back to their roots to help clean up the environment ?because, Charity begins at home?.

Thanking the crowd on behalf of the Goodies Foundation and Goodies Music Productions, the Managing Director of Goodies, Mr Isaac Abeidu-Aidoo said he grateful to all the people who voted for the VIP.

And mentioned that, VIP came over there to leave them with a message that cleanliness is next to godliness.

?These awards which the VIP won is for the people of Nima because you have supported them ever they released their first album. Thank you all, he added.?

Hon. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey presented the awards to the group members which they in turn dedicated to the people in an impressive ceremony.

To prove that they really love VIP and have been with them all the way, the crowd sang all their old and new songs along with them.

It was indeed an afternoon to remember.
