Female Legend Passes Hi-life musician, Madam Awurama Badu

Madam Awurama Badu, a veteran hi-life musician has died at the Effiduase Government Hospital in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region.

The popular hi-life musician, was the composer of the ‘Medofo Adaada Me’ hit song.

The 72-year-old, who was one of the country’s prolific musicians had ‘Komkom’, ‘Emelia’ and ‘Obaatan Refre Ne Mma’ as part of her collections.

Last year, Values for Life (VFL-Ghana), a non-governmental organisation honoured a number of female legends including; Awurama Badu as part of the event “A Night With Female Legends.”

The celebrated legends honoured on the night included; Asabea Cropper, Naa Amanua, Awurama Badu, Afua Darkenoo, Grace Nortey, Monica Quarcoopome, Grace Omaboe, Doris Adabasu Kuwornu, Veronica Cudjoe, Grace Djabaki Laing, Professor Esi Sutherland and Mercy Offei.

The event was to honour some of the country’s female legends in the Creative Arts Industry, whose hard work had paved way for some of the young ones to be courageous enough to venture into the industry and take professions.

Ms Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Chief Executive Officer of VFL-Ghana, who spoke on the death of the Veteran Musician said it was good to honour Heroes of the Creative Arts Industry before they depart.

She said “some of them had their hard work unnoticed and unappreciated but their toils had made some of us what we are today and we appreciate the pace they set as bold female Creative practitioners.”

This year the following were also honoured as part of the event including: Esi Sutherland, Dzifa Glikpoe, Ama Buabeng, Cecilia Adjei, Patience Kwakwa, Korkor Amartefio, Rama Brew, Mary Yirenkyi, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, Akua Abloso and Della Hayes.
