Award-winning Ghanaian actor cum producer Van Vicker has been recognized as one of Africa’s most influential filmmakers at this year’s Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) held in the United State of America weeks ago.
Van won best comedy with his latest movie, ‘Joni Waka’. His movie beat other top and funny movies as ‘Madam Landlord’, ‘Basketmouth’, ‘Timeless Passion’, and ‘Eletan’ to win the category.
Van’s new movie is one of the best productions to have come out of his Sky Orange Production. He starred in it with popular award-winning Twi actor Agya Koo. The movie made the headlines when Van decided to use Agya Koo. Winning an award with the movie obviously means the production paid off.
NAFCA is organized by the Nollywood Film Critics, USA, the official movie review organization for Nollywood and African movies, to recognize excellence of professionals in the African film industry, including directors, actors, writers and humanitarians.
The award ceremony is described as one of the most prominent award ceremonies in North America for the African movie industry and the only awards to boast of over 100 African movie stars and filmmakers from around the world under one roof for the greatest African movie awards event in North America.
NAFCA is designed as an award of merit for distinctive achievement in the African movie industry. It is yet to be confirmed if Van was the only Ghanaian filmmaker to have picked an award at the ceremony.
A number of Nollywood bigwigs including Uche Jumbo picked awards.
