Cape Coast, May 2, GNA- A Mercedes Benz bus with registration number AS 5038 Y on Friday crushed a woman in her 50s to death in front of her store, near the Anarfo market, a suburb of Cape Coast. Chief superintendent Charles Oduro Botchwey, Commander of the Central regional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU), made this known to the GNA in Cape Coast. He said the deceased, known as Madam Adjoa Cobbah, who was sitting in front of her store was crushed by the Benz bus, which negotiated a curve from the Ntsin street to join the commercial street through the T junction adjacent the Barclays bank. He said Paul Baah, the driver of the bus, told the police that he was coming from Kumasi after taking some students to the Kakum national park on an excursion and were on their way to the Cape Coast castle, when his brakes failed.

According to Chief Superintendent Botchwey, Baah's vehicle first grazed a taxi cab before running into Madam Cobbah, gushing out her intestines and killing her instantly, but those inside the shop escaped unhurt. He said Madam Cobbah was rushed to the district hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy, while the driver is in police custody.
