A lot has been said in regards to the forth coming ceremony of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after the release of the nomination list. Controversies have cropped out generating a whole lot of hullabaloos pertaining to the nomination list which was released.
Critics and various media houses have spoken and most music lovers have had positive and negative views with some of the nominees in some of the categories especially the category of Artiste of the Year. It is a category that is meant for the outstanding and best artist for the year under review.
This year the likes of R2Bees, D-black, Kwaw Kese, VIP, Cwesi Oteng and 4x4 made their way through the entertainment market finding themselves successfully placed for this enviable category that has got most people wondering why other acts who had put in much efforts throughout the year could not fit in this category.
Views gathered on the streets shows some persons like rapper, Asem should have been in that category but unfortunately his (Asem) effort wasn't enough to gain him that slot in the eyes of the organizers.
Considering the criteria for the selection of various categories for the forth coming awards, a lot needs to be reconsidered for the years ahead. Although much goes into this selections, the Artist of the Year category which should consider these few suggestions to enable them arrive at a choice that will suit all and sundry and prevent these petty issues that keep cropping out and bringing the credibility of the organizers (Charter House) to question.
An artist who had the highest number of stage performances for various shows and events both in Ghana and beyond, a wider airplay of his or her tracks among others should be the one to be in this category. Again the artist should gain at least two hit tracks and release an album under the year of review.
There is no doubt that most music lovers have their favorites found in this category. Judging from the responds, comments and viewpoints of most music lovers it is very obvious that all fingers are pointing to the Tema based Hiplife group, R2bees after their successful hit singles ‘Odo’, ‘Life (Walaahi)’ and ‘Bayla Trap’ which ended them eight nominations including three more nomination from the other group member, Mugeez.
Massive airplay on various media houses and various events wasn't their problem because events worth celebrated should play these hit singles. This then brings the question what if R2Bees does not win as the ‘Artist of the Year’ this year?
This is definitely going to be a big blow to the act themselves as well as to their fans that have without doubt taken the victory in advance but waiting in patience for formality to take place.
