Koo Ntakara, a young upcoming musician has been crowned the winner of the second edition of the MTN Hitmaker reality show which came off at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday October 25.

The son of a banku seller from Koforidua beat his three other finalists, Cano Z, Kofi Korea and K-Bee to pick home the ultimate prize of Ghc100.00 plus a recording and management deal.


Popularly known as Volta Djata (Volta Lion), Cano Z emerged as the first runner-up and got GHC50.000. Kofi Korea, a Tema based rapper who was tipped to win was the second runner-up with budding gospel artiste and a Taxi Driver taking home the fourth position.


The finals kicked off with words from the three judges; Zapp Mallet, Bessa Simons and Ofie Kudjo. Sound engineer, Zapp Mallet who was first to open the floor said, "This is a do or die affair", advising the contestants to go for the kill if they are to win this show.


Ace keyboardist and 2nd Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons continued from where Zapp stopped. He said, "We are going to see fireworks". Songstress Ofie Kudjo ended the judges' open remarks by saying that, Ghana is ready to welcome the artiste to rule the nation.


Evicted member of this year's show, Trozo opened the show by performing two songs including his popular song "Brukina." Paradise Entertainment new dance-hall act, AK Songstress also wowed the crowd with two of her songs.


Gospel artiste, K-Bee officially started the show, followed by Cano-Z, Kofi Korea with the ultimate winner, Koo Ntakara in that manner to end the first of three segments.

With the auditorium fully packed with each of the contestants having a considerably number of fans there to support their course which is to win the ultimate, all the four finalists got off to a flying start. The audience loved their performances, cheered and clapped for each of them.


Comments from the judges were spot on. Each of the finalists had done a pretty good job and the judges collectively concurred on their superb start. It was difficult to judge which of the four was on top during the first performance.


The night was between two sets of artistes; the once who have the urge to go commercial and succeed, and the other category belongs to the artistes who are lyrically gifted.


According to views shared by some patrons at the show, K-Bee and Korea, with the right things done at the right time can go commercial and stay relevant no matter the outcome whiles others believes, Cano Z and Koo Ntakara are only good lyrically.


In the second round, the competition became a three-horse race between Kofi Korea, Cano Z and Koo Ntakara. In the third and final round, Cano Z and Koo Ntakara became the favourites of many.


With the last two standing, Cano Z was mentioned as the second runner up which automatically made Koo Ntakara the winner of the show and the cheers that greeted the announcement confirmed that, the right artiste won the competition and the audience were happy about that.

Other awards on the night includes Best Dressed performer which went to K-Bee and Decoder picked home the Best Engineer award.


There were also performances from Naterial and Miriam, winner and first runner up of the MTN Hitmaker first edition, Ohemaa Mercy, Guru and Nigerian music star, Iyanya.
