Ho, June 15, GNA - The Volta Region House of Chiefs has expressed its displeasure with the delay in rectifying the technical problems that have taken the Volta Star FM radio off air.

It said the issue, including lack of GBC television reception in the region, was assuming political dimensions.

The House expressed these sentiments when the matter came up for discussion at an emergency meeting on Tuesday.

"The only nation-wide FM Radio Station in the region has been out of operation for the past three months. The people of the region are therefore denied current news on national events".

"In the same vein the GTV, which provides both national events and entertainment, has also ceased transmitting to the people of the Volta Region a situation that does not augur well for our people", Togbega Gabusu, President of the House said at the meeting. Togbega Gabusu said for more than five weeks he had booked an appointment to see the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation but "up to today the Director-General has refused to grant me audience.''

"I cannot therefore tell whether the continued cut-of service of both GTV and radio is intentional or a lackadaisical attitude of some individuals to sabotage the efforts of government", Togbega Gabusu said. "We therefore wish to stress that it was time the government of Ghana and the powers that be did something about the unfortunate situation immediately", he said.

The House also expressed unhappiness that Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the Regional Minister, was unable to attend the emergency meeting convened at his request neither did he delegate anybody else to attend on his behalf.

Other issues discussed at the meeting included the termination of contract for the continuation of a bungalow for the Registrar of the House, lack of transport for the House and lack of Legal Counsel for the House.
