World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Champion, Kofi Kingston, has met Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of his visit to Ghana.
Kofi Kingston met the Asante monarch at the grand durbar of the Akwasidae festival on Sunday, 2 June 2019, which is held every 40 days to celebrate the ancestors and pay homage to the Asante leader.
He presented a replica WWE Championship belt to the Asantehene.
The WWE superstar’s visit to Ghana forms part of the government’s “Year of Return” initiative, which is a major landmark marketing campaign targeting the African-American and diaspora market to mark 400 years of the first enslaved African arriving in Jamestown, Virginia.
Expressing his excitement in an Instagram post, Kofi Kingston said: “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would stand before the Ashanti King bearing gifts and conversing with him.”
Before meeting the Asantehene, Kofi Kingston visited his father’s hometown, Ejisu, where he met the chief, Nana Afrane Okese IV.
