Photos of one of Ghana's favourite foods, Waakye, packaged in a jar has triggered a barraged of comments on Twitter.

Many of the tweets indicate that the packaging of the food, which is considered by some Ghanaians as the most nutritious meal, is inappropriate and makes the food unattractive.

Waakye is a dish of cooked rice and beans, commonly eaten for breakfast or lunch.

The rice and beans, usually black-eyed peas or cow beans, are cooked together, along with red dried sorghum leaf sheaths or stalks and limestone.

On Tuesday, June 16 2020, photos of what is now being referred to as ‘Waakye in a jar’ hit the internet and elicited some wild comments.

The reactions started the #WakyeLivesMatter tweetstorm.

Some few tweets, however, praised the initiative.
