Kumasi, Nov 19, GNA - "The Beauty of Ugliness", a contemporary art works that seeks to explore how waste and refuse mostly from the beach could be recycled and designed into various artistic works has been exhibited at the Alliance Francaise in Kumasi.
It was aimed at portraying to the art world how waste and items like old shoes, plastic and sundry stuff could be re-designed into various art works while also bringing out the creativity and innovativeness of the contemporary artist.
Virginia Ryan, an Australian artist based in Ghana mounted the show, which was sponsored by the French and Italian Embassies in Ghana. Professor Ato Delaquis, Dean of the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), called on artists to explore new ideas that could enable them to break into the international market.
He commended Virginia Ryan for her sense of innovativeness and called on all artists in the country to follow her example. Mr Benoit Olivier, Director of the Kumasi Alliance Francaise, hinted that his outfit would hold a movie festival to show documentaries on the various European and African cultures with the aim of integrating all aspects of the cultures of Africa and Europe as part of efforts to promote inter-cultural unity and development in the Kumasi metropolis. 19 Nov 04
