Sun, 6 Nov 2005 Source: ghanamusic.com

He has been in existence for 6 years now. He has hosted the biggest hiplife concert in UK dubbed ‘Hiplife Giants’ and other concerts. He has promoted over 30 artistes in the UK.

Infact, he has promoted hiplife music in UK a lot. He is in the person of Nana Osei Yaw Ansah better known as Wayoosi, the biggest music distributor in the UK.

Wayoosi started his works in Ghana since all his promotions deals with Ghanaian music and continued it in UK. He collaborated with Akass Music but later went his own way and gave birth to Wayoosi Music and Services which deals in travel and tour, money transfer, CD, DVD, Video sales, Courier services, mobile phones and accessories, graphic designing, fashion, cargo services and more.

Reasons why he came into the music industry was that hiplife was not been promoted well in Ghana and took it upon himself to take hiplife music outside.

Ghana Music.com: So what do you really do?
Wayoosi: I do all sectors of promotion in hiplife music.

He has been so far accepted in the music industry but is yet to break onto the international market as he says. He now has three offices, which are in UK, Kumasi and Accra.

Since he executively produced Noble Nketia, we asked what happened at the beginning of his promotion. “I left the promotion with Family Tree Entertainment but they did not promote the album well so I had to come down and put more effort in it. Later, media promos went on well”, he cleared the air.? Wayoosi later stressed that he has other means of promoting his artistes but not paying payola.

Ghana Music.com: What are your thoughts about hiplife music?
Wayoosi: There are no laid down dates for artistes to release their albums. Now, purchasing power is very low. MUSIGA should also check the types of music that are released. What I have to say about the artistes is that they demand a lot and a lot of them don’t know what they are doing. They have to sit down, take their time and bring good albums.

For all those who missed his concerts dubbed ‘Ghana Music in London’, ‘Hiplife Stars In London’ (A series of performances by our own home based hiplife rappers) and ‘Highlife Stars In London’ (a concert of some of the best highlife singers of our time, performing live in London), they are now on sale on DVDs and VCDs.

Artistes like Obour, Kokovelli, K. K. Fosu, Daasebre Dwamena, Kwaadee, King David, Lord Kenya, Yoggi Doggi, Batman, Mad Fish, Reggie Rockstone, Azigiza, Paa She’ee, T-Blaze, Antwi Ne Antwi, Young Sam and Virus have all been promoted by him.

The latest update on Wayoosi is that he is in collaboration with Alordia to bring out Sidney’s new album, ‘Obiaa Nye Obiaa’. Also plans are far advanced to open other branches of Wayoosi Music and Services in Sunyani, Cape Coast and Koforidua.

His new sign-ups Toyota Cosby and K. Wuo have their albums out but are receiving little airplay mostly because of “payola”.

Wayoosi’s last words were “let’s keep Ghanaian music going on and let’s help mother Ghana grow”.
