Ghanaian Highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena has blamed Ghanaians for note holding leaders accountable for unfulfilled promises.
This, according to him, is responsible for the harsh state of the country today.
Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV on September 7, 2024, Kwabena Kwabena pointed out that politicians often make grand promises during election campaigns but fail to deliver once in office.
He claimed that this cycle continues because voters do not hold leaders accountable, allowing them to repeat the same behaviour in subsequent elections.
“Ever since we started practising democracy in 1992, if we held politicians accountable for their promises in their manifestos, we wouldn't be here.
“Politicians only come to make a lot of big promises and after we vote for them, they don't fulfil these promises. And because no one holds them accountable, they get away with it and do the same thing in the next election cycle.”
He added “Every 4 years, we hear all these big promises but after voting them into power, we complain of hardships. I feel like we are our own problem.”
Kwabena Kwabena’s comments come amid the public's dissatisfaction with the current state of governance and demands for change and accountability from leaders.
Various protests have been held in the country over economic hardship, cost of living, abuse of power, corruption, and poor infrastructure.
