Whilst some gospel musicians do not see anything wrong with the work of secular artistes, Preachers, an urban gospel music group made up of three dynamic young men Psych, Emani and Eddy think there is no need to listen to songs of the world as a child of God. They named Sarkodie, Joy B and other secular artistes as musicians they do not listen to.

The rap group on Accra FM’s gospel entertainment show, Gospel 360 told Andy Favoured, host of the show that “we do no listen to them at all. I cant event sing any of Sarkodie, Joey B and all those other guys’ songs”.

Giving reasons from their resolution reached after consideration not to listen to any secular music, Psych, a member of the group which has been nominated for three categories at this year’s Ghana Music Awards disclosed that “because there are better guys like Lecrae, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. and other urban hiphop gospel guys that I look up to. I do what they do so I focus my energy, time and effort in listening to them because they fill me in with what I need to bring out but if I listen to Sarkodie, I will probably be bringing out what Sarokdie wants to give to his fans which is not our direction.”

Commenting on a possible collaboration with the BET award-winner, they said on the Sunday show that “it depends on the direction God will give us”.

The trio known for hit song “Crazy” continued that they are good rappers but quickly added that they cannot be compared to Sarkodie, Joey B and other hiplife rappers because “they have a different direction”.

“They are better spitting the worldly things and we are also better spitting the word of God”

The group, Preachers which has been in existence since 2009 has been nominated for Best Group of the Year, Best Music Video of the Year and Best Gospel Artiste of the Year categories at this year’s Vodefone Ghana Music Awards making them the first urban gospel artistes to get nominations at the country’s biggest music awards.
