Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has reacted to concerns raised by colleague musician, Stonebwoy, about not being featured in an article on Hiplife artistes.

Stonebwoy had expressed his concerns about not being mentioned in an article listing Ghanaian musicians who had made an impact on the Hiplife genre in Ghana.

Although netizens pointed out that the article was specified to Hiplife artistes only, Stonebwoy remained adamant in his claim that he should have been included.

Shatta Wale, however, known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his reply.

In a post on X on August 23, 2024, Shatta Wale urged Stonebwoy to reduce his ego and allow credit to be given to those due.

"How are you gonna demand a shoutout in a Hiplife article when you didn’t even get the memo back then? Somebody needs to deflate this ego a bit—let’s give credit where it’s actually due! @stonebwoy, we need less ‘big head’ and more facts!" Shatta Wale posted.

What happened?

The article, published on the official website of the Grammy Recording Academy, listed 10 Ghanaian artistes who have made an impact on the Hiplife genre in Ghana.

Artistes, including Reggie Rockstone, VIP, Lord Kenya and Sarkodie were listed. Other artistes, including Samini, Kwaw Kese and Shatta Wale were also given honourable mentions.

Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, however, was outraged about his name not appearing in the article.

He criticised the article for omitting his name, arguing that he has made significant contributions to Ghanaian music.

Stonebwoy's post sparked backlash on social media, with many questioning his inclusion in a Hiplife-focused list.

Stonebwoy defended his stance, arguing that his impact and inspiration from Hiplife artistes warranted his inclusion.

The exchange has sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders about the contributions of various artists to the Hiplife genre and the broader Ghanaian music scene.
