International law and governance expert, Kwame Mfodwo has underscored the need to involve celebrities including slay queens in the fight against Coronavirus.

Speaking on Point of View, Monday, Mr. Mfodwo said it is imperative to also use public figures to trumpet the safety protocols and the need to adhere.

“You need to get somebody who is superb at selling a new product. You are selling a new product which is a mix of masks and all sort of things. It should be done in music, it should be done in cartoons, Agya Koo should be doing his own version,” he said.

“Nana Ama McBrown should not be doing a food show, she should be doing her version of fashion and I’m gonna be funny to say maybe we even need to slay queens doing some of this stuff because you have to reach every segment of the population and sell them a new product.”

At a press conference in Accra few weeks ago, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah announced government’s intention to engage celebrities in the fight against Coronavirus.

According to the minister, government, as part of efforts to educate the public about the pandemic will appoint some celebrities as ambassadors.

Amidst claims those who will be appointed will be paid for the services they’ll render, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said there was no such intention.

“We were thinking of having them as public education ambassadors or public education champions. I later saw online stories that we have said we are going to use celebrity ambassadors and suggestion that we are going to pay some money; no, that is not happening.”
