Renowned gospel artiste, Grace Ashly, has revealed that many celebrities in Ghana often seek financial support from politicians.

Having been involved in politics for some time, Ashly noted that politicians tend to belittle celebrities because of their frequent requests for money.

The ‘Se Nye Nyame A’ hitmaker pointed out that this continuous act of begging has diminished the respect politicians have for celebrities.

"If you are an entertainer or a celebrity and you get close to politicians, the respect they give you is very low because they know we always beg for money from them," she said in Twi during an interview with Onua FM on August 19, 2024.

Ashly also advised her fellow gospel artistes to be open about their political involvement or to avoid it altogether if they cannot handle the scrutiny.

"If you are a gospel artiste, you can’t hide if you are into politics. You can’t enjoy two cakes at the same time. So, either you do it or abstain from it and focus on your career," she added.

The artiste has announced her departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.

Some of the songs Ashly has produced include ‘Se Nye Awurade A,’ ‘Enye Mia,’ ‘Wo Nutso Yesu,’ and others.
