Jeffery Nortey is a popular Ghanaian actor and filmmaker
Popular Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Jeffrey Nortey has highlighted the massive growth in the creative arts space, particularly the movie industry.
He noted that although the sector is not yet where it used to be, there are clear signs of improvement.
Speaking with GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu, the popular actor and comedian emphasized that his personal growth as a brand reflects the broader progress of the industry.
“It’s growing. I mean, I am part of the industry, and I’m growing as an individual, I’m growing as a brand, so obviously it’s growing. It’s a creative space; there’s more room for improvement, but we’re not where we used to be. Whether it’s music, movies, or content creation, the growth has been massive,” he said.
Narrowing his focus to the movie industry, Nortey added that the sector could see major improvement if Ghanaians stop limiting themselves to platforms like Netflix and explore other outlets such as YouTube, which also hosts quality Ghanaian films.
I find fulfilment in projecting the Ga language – Jeffery Nortey
“We are doing awesome. Consistency is key; we should produce more good films. There are a lot of platforms, but I think people don’t know about them. Ghanaians are targeting Netflix and Prime, but there’s YouTube. There are YouTube films, and it doesn’t take a lot to produce one. That said, filmmaking is expensive. So, let’s explore more platforms and produce more films,” he explained.
Jeffrey further stressed the need for new talents and fresh faces on screen, pointing out that audiences are eager for change.
“We need new talents, we need new faces. A lot of people are tired of seeing the same old faces. There are great talents out there, let’s scout them and put them on,” he urged.
