Chief Executive Officer of Slip Music, Mark Okraku-Mantey has asserted that Ghanaians are too quick to castigate Kumasi-produced movies.

Movies from the sector according to some people are negating the progress of Ghana’s movie industry and have subsequently called on producers to sit up.

They have argued that the movies are substandard but Okraku-Mantey making a submission on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Thursday, said the producers are making good use of equipment and knowledge at their disposal.

According to him, producers of movies in local language have not received support from these critics and should therefore not be quick to rubbish their hard works.

“I won’t defend them [Kumasi movie producers] on anything but to say they are not doing their best, I will fight for them. Movie making often do not survive in smaller populated environments. Record will tell you that those who seem to be doing so well are favoured by population. We’ve not supported these people but we are quick to bash them. Our people do not have the technology others are using,” he told host, KMJ.

“Those who slam film makers, let them make an attempt to shoot a fifteen-minute thing…” the Executive Producer of Efiewura TV series added.

Despite the criticism levelled against movies from Kumasi, some have credited it for reviving Ghana’s movie industry when Nigerian movies dominated the Ghana market.
