Welder jailed for fraud

Accra Oct. 9, GNA - A 30-year-old welder who collected monies from drivers to influencing officials of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Happy Tsorkpor pleaded guilty to defrauding by false pretences and was convicted accordingly by the court chaired by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah. Prosecuting Inspector Michael Quarm told the court that on October 4, this year, at about 7:00am, Tsorkpor went to the premises of the MTTU and collected 120,000 cedis from two drivers who had been arrested by the police under the pretext of influencing the officers who had arrested them but bolted.

Prosecution said on October 7, this year while trying to con more drivers, Tsorkpor was spotted and arrested.
