Renowned Ghanaian music video director Babs Direction has taken a swipe at the clergy for their refusal to criticise the government for its actions.
Making this known in a Twitter post on 17 July 2024, Babs Direction, real name Awudu Musa, suggested that if congregants stopped paying offertory, pastors would begin to voice their dissatisfaction and hold politicians accountable for the financial hardships faced by citizens.
He noted that many pastors currently believe their congregants have sufficient funds because they continue to give generously.
However, he argued that when financial difficulties start to impact the church directly, religious leaders will likely shift their focus to criticising political leaders for the economic challenges.
“If people stop paying offertory, pastors will start to complain and call out politicians. Currently, they think congregants have money because they continue to give. When financial hardship affects them directly, they will criticise our leaders,” he posted.
Babs Direction’s comments come amid the public's dissatisfaction with the current state of governance and demands for change and accountability from leaders.
Various protests have been held in the country over economic hardship, cost of living, abuse of power, corruption, and poor infrastructure.
