Ghanaian Hip-life musician turned politician, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus, has addressed his altercation with film producer Socrate Safo on the United Showbiz programme.

It could be recalled that in July 2024, Socrate Safo exited the United Showbiz programme following a heated argument with A Plus over alleged fund distribution to film producers by the government.

The dispute intensified when A Plus made offensive remarks, likening Socrate's intellect to that of a chicken's clitoris. Socrate demanded an apology, which was not given, leading to his departure from the show.

In an interview on Hitz FM on August 12, A Plus apologised to those who were unhappy with his outburst but maintained that his actions were justified.

Explaining his reasons for his attack on Socrate Safo, A Plus explained that Socrate Safo was alleged to have been in support of the invasion of the UTV studios by some alleged supporters of the NPP in June 2024 and had also not condemned the act. Hence, his vendetta.

“It was the right thing to do…It is alleged that you (Socrate Safo) said you were happy that people wanted to come and beat me. Let's say it is not true that he said it. But did you condemn it?

“Because you are the NPP person who comes on the show. You didn't condemn it. Then you come back on that same show that you wanted people to come and beat me to come and talk about Akufo-Addo? If you think that just speaking against your government deserves what happened, then what were you coming to do there?” A Plus said.

He revealed that his confrontation with Socrate was premeditated, aiming to ensure Socrate's departure from the show.

“I knew that I couldn't tell the producer not to bring Socrate on the show but I'll make sure that he leaves. So when he was leaving, I was happy that I had achieved my aim. Mission accomplished,” he said.

Despite the heated exchange, A Plus noted that Socrate still waited to collect his compensation before leaving.

“Even with that, he waited to take his compensation of GH₵500, he was patient enough to wait and take the money before he stormed out,” he added.
