Gospel musician, Grace Ashly, has shared the reasons behind her decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and join Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.
She mentioned that she has been with the NPP for a considerable time, serving as the deputy general secretary of the Sowutuom constituency and producing various campaign songs for the party.
Ashly explained that it was Alan’s policies and vision for the country that motivated her to join his movement and support his leadership aspirations.
In an interview with Onua FM on August 20, 2024, Ashly elaborated on her decision:
"I used to be a member of the NPP, but I have switched to the butterfly movement because I realized it’s not about political parties but about policies and who is bringing them. I joined the butterfly group [Movement for Change] because I have seen their good works.
"I was the NPP constituency deputy secretary in Sowutuom during Mills/Mahama’s time. I wasn’t visible because sometimes, despite good intentions, some people won’t let it work unless they add value. I have known Alan since 2007, and he has always been someone I engage with," she said in Twi.
She also discussed why she chose to engage in politics despite being a gospel artiste.
"As a gospel musician, my songs inspire and motivate people, so I use them to speak about the nature of things, hence my interest in politics. I need to address the problems facing us, the youth, and others because I have the voice," she added.
Some of the songs Ashly has produced include ‘Se Nye Awurade A H,’ ‘Enye Mia,’ ‘Wo Nutso Yesu,’ and others.
