Prominent Ghanaian fashion mogul and entertainment critic, Kofi Otchere Darko aka KOD, has opened up about his reasons for supporting NDC flagbearer and former President John Mahama despite years of being pro-President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview with Joy FM on August 10, 2024, KOD pointed out how he was optimistic when President Nana Akufo-Addo took office after Mahama's ‘turbulent’ tenure.

However, he was disappointed with the current administration, describing it as one of ‘the most turbulent periods’ in the country's history.

“When President Mahama came, unfortunately for him, he had a very turbulent time, especially with dumsor, which he resolved before leaving office.

“So finally, when Nana Akufo-Addo had the opportunity to take the reins of this country. I thought… this is the time, let's give him that opportunity.’

“And if you ask me, it's become one of the most turbulent times in our country. I think that we've not done so well under his watch,” he said.

He said his decision to endorse John Mahama was borne out of Akufo-Addo's call for Ghanaians to be proactive in advancing the nation.

“So, at a point as a citizen of this country, I got to that realisation that, ‘you're growing, man’. The founding fathers of this continent, some of them were younger than you and they played pivotal roles in whatever Africa has become. We could have been better as a continent,” he said.

“That is the reason I decided that the NDC is home to me because, for me, my support for Nana Akufo-Addo was him as a person. And the fact that I thought he could make a huge impact and difference in this country, not the NPP,” he added.
