Popular Nigerian DJ, DJ Neptune, recently shared his insights on why many artistes go broke despite the fame and fortune they had in their early days.

Speaking on the Zero Conditions Podcast, Neptune highlighted the importance of financial responsibility and the risks of excessive spending without foresight.

He explained that most artistes refuse to invest their money and spend recklessly due to the assumption that their money is 'forever.'

"Artistes feel fame is forever; that’s why some of them, while they are at their peak, don’t save up their money, they don’t invest.

“I was with somebody the other day, and the person was saying these artistes that collect advance payments, they collect it and go and buy Benz. Is that not your future you are driving?" Neptune explained.

Neptune, who has collaborated with artistes like Burna Boy and Rema, emphasized that fame is fleeting and without proper financial planning, many could struggle when their popularity declines.

He also noted that only a few artistes manage to sustain their careers beyond a decade, making future planning even more crucial.

“It is only a few of us that have the grace to be in the game for more than five, ten years. You are appealing to a certain age group, and if you don’t know how to tone down and switch, you might have missed your way,” he said.

He advised his colleagues to invest wisely while they are still at the top.

“That’s why I tell some of my colleagues, while you are on top, invest your money. If it’s properties you want to do, just have a side income,” he advised.
