Ghanaians will have the exciting opportunity of hearing the world acclaimed Osnabruck Youth Choir in August this year when the choir is hosted by the Winneba Youth Choir at a joint concert to be held at the National Theatre on Sunday August, 15, 2004.

In 1982, the Osnabruck Youth Choir won the First German Choral Competition and the special prize from the City of Cologne for the Best performance of a contemporary choral work.

Since then, the choir has become one of the most recognized ensembles of its kind in Europe. Numerous other national and international competitions continue to be won by the group.

The choir has visited many parts of the world as German?s choral Ambassadors, often with the support of the German Music Council.

It has established partnerships with choirs and orchestras all over the world. Many oratorios of all epochs have been performed by the choir through such co-operation.

The unique sound of the Osnabruck Youth Choir is achieved through an innovatitive blending of its male and female voices. In a manner that ensures greater independence and control of individual voices, and the production of a stronger overall sound.

Johannes Rahe is the founder and conductor of the Choir. He is also a Juror and advisor for a number of national and international choir organizations.

Mr Rahe is assisted by Stephan Kwesi Luterman, a Ghanaian, who as a boy sang in the choir. He plays the organ. The Osnabruck Youth Choir will be in Ghana for a week.
