A woman at Kofi Esa, a village near New Edubiase in the Adansi East District of the Ashanti region, who could not stand the move on the part of her husband to take a new wife, has allegedly poisoned the man to death. Abena Owuo was said to have warned the husband several times to choose between taking a new wife and death. The husband, Yaw Anim, did not heed the warning and apparently suffered for it. Abena who is on a provisional charge of murder has been remanded in prison custody to reappear before the Bekwai magistrate court in two weeks to allow the police some time to complete investigations into the matter.

Her plea was not taken. The husband?s remains have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital mortuary for autopsy. The Obuasi divisional police commander, Chief Supt K.A. Boateng speaking in interview said the incident took place at about 6pm on August 17, when Anim visited his new wife at her house. On his return, Abena prepared the table for him to take fufu for supper. Mr. Boateng said while taking the fufu, Anim started vomiting and complained of dizziness and stomach pains. The division commander said that he was rushed to the Bekwai hospital where he was pronounced dead. Mr. Boateng continued that attempts by the police to retrieve the remnants of the fufu proved futile as the woman was said to have thrown it away. He said the police were also investigating reports that a cat that took some of the fufu also died.
