Woman jailed for biting off the lips of sister-in-law

Aflao, June 7, GNA- Charity Ahiable, 40, a Petty Trader, has been jailed for three years by the Aflao Circuit, for biting-off the lower lips of her sister-in-law, Madam Dede Combey. She pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Kofi Frimpong told the Court presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi-Kumah that the victim, had married Charity's brother for the past 11 years and have given birth to three children. He said Charity who did not accede to the marriage had engaged her law to a number of quarrels, sending Madam Combey out of her marital home intermittently.

He said on May 25, this year, Charity picked a quarrel with Dedey and in the process held her by the head and bit off her lower lips. Chief Inspector Frimpong said when Dedey was sent to the Ketu District Hospital at Aflao, doctors could not stitch the lips because the of severed flesh was dead.

The Presiding Judge said the rising incidents of assault was on the increase and expressed the hope that the sentence would act as a deterrent to others.
