A woman, who pulled the genitals of a man resulting in his death a few days later has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour for manslaughter by a Kumasi High Court.

The woman, Cecilia Wiafe, a 24-year-old trader pleaded not guilty and said she pulled the genitals of Martin Kofi Kusi in self-defence.

Mr Agyeman Duodu, a Senior State Attorney, who prosecuted, told the court presided over by Justice Mariama Owusu that Kusi used to sell cassettes at the Patterson Zochonis (PZ) area at Adum in Kumasi while Cecilia sold turkey tails at the Swiss Trading Company (SAT) area near the Kejetia Roundabout.

He said in September 1999, Cecilia and her two sisters severely assaulted one Ama Sarpong, near where the deceased sold his cassettes.

Mr Duodu said in the course of the assault, Kusi went to separate them but Cecilia took offence and attacked Kusi and held his genitals with both hands and pulled it hard.

Cecilia maintained her grip of Kusi's genitals until some men, who were passing by hit her hands with their belts before she relinquished her hold.

Mr Duodu said the deceased, who was then bleeding from the nose and mouth complained of pains in his genitals managed to report the case at the Railways Police station, who gave him a form to send to the hospital.

Five days after the incident, Kusi died of his injuries and a pathological report indicated that he died of excessive haematonia due to severe injury to his genitals, the Prosecution added.

Cecilia in her defence said it was rather the deceased who assaulted her and that she pulled his genitals in self-defence.
