A NATIVE of Tevi in neighbouring Togo, Kwadzo Zombo Amenyikpo, 34, is in police custody at the Old Fadama police station, for allegedly harassing female traders at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra, and possessing a firearm without lawful authority.

During his arrest on February 14, this year, the James Town Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Buahin, said Kwadzo had in his possession two charms, one of which he uses to attract women to his beck and call, and the other, which enables him to disappear at any given time.

Other items found on him included a locally manufactured pistol, with an empty cartridge and live ammunition, and a catapult.

According to the Crime Officer, Kwadzo's ill-behaviour towards the market women became unbearable, and was reported to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Task Force in the market, which failed to arrest him, because he pulled out a pistol.

DSP Buahin noted that the suspect went into hiding for the past three weeks, and was arrested by the same task force on St. Valentine's Day. Kwadzo is being processed for court.

In another development, 20-year old Kwasi Anthony, who was being investigated by a police detective for allegedly using a fake GH¢50 to purchase some second-hand clothing at the Tema station in Accra last Thursday, was unrepentant, as he dipped his hand into the police investigator's purse, and stole an amount of GH¢95 at the Ministries District Police station

According to the District Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Albert Fii Ochil, the alleged thief, after stealing Detective Inspector Olivia Ajavon's money, hid it in his pants while in police custody. He said Kwasi discreetly handed the stolen money over to a cell-mate for safe keeping.

Later in the day, ASP Ochil said even though Kwasi Anthony had no money when he was brought to the police station on Thursday at about 10 a.m., he gave out an amount of GH¢5 to be used to buy him some food.

Kwasi claimed he sells yam tubers on the Graphic Road in Accra.

The police, according to ASP Ochil, became suspicious of the situation, and during a search on the suspect, an amount of GH¢93 was retrieved. Kwasi Anthony told the police he had used GH¢2 for food already.

Meanwhile, Kwasi Anthony went to the Tema station bus terminal in Accra on Thursday with the supposed GH¢50 note to buy some second hand clothing, but the dealer noticed that the money was a counterfeit.

ASP Ochil noted that the authenticity of the currency would be established by the Bank of Ghana, as investigations into the matter continue.
