Actor John Dumelo has advised movie script writers to write stories that depict the beauty of Ghana so that movies Ghana can help market the country.

The ‘Bride Is Mine’ actor said, “The best way to sell Ghana with our movies is to sit down and write our scripts properly to depict exactly what Ghana is about and enhance the beauty of Ghana.”

According to the Tourism Ambassador, who was speaking in an interview on Showbiz This Week on Hitz FM with MzGee, doing this will allure people to the country.

He said most people learn about the cultures of countries like Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa through the movies they produce and, therefore, urged Ghanaian film-makers to emulate same.

“In some of the glamour films, we just show the city life and what things happen between the aristocratic class of people so you don't really get to tell the story of the Ghanaian culture but with respect to other films that are shot outside Accra, we do show how beautiful how our countryside is,” John submitted.

“If it has to do with marriage, naming ceremony or with something else, I think we depict what our culture says about marriage and naming ceremony,” he added.

For some time now, some Ghanaian movies producers have expressed frustration at acquiring tourist sites to shoot their movies.

Touching on the challenges with shooting at tourist sites in Ghana, John urged that proper procedures be followed to make acquiring and using these sites, easy.

“I don't think that will be a problem if you write to some of these tourist sites, but I think sometimes what we filmmakers do is that we just show up at the place and then we expect to be granted audience but it doesn't work that way," he advised.

John nevertheless confessed that gaining access to these places to shoot films is quite tiresome.

“We've been to the mall so many times where we wanted to film, but we had to ask permission write a letter so on and so forth, sometimes it can be frustrating but I think it's just the right process.”
