2020 TGMA 'Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year', Ras Kuuku, has expressed frustration over the lack of recognition he and his fellow musician Yaa Pono have since encountered in the Ghanaian music industry.
In an interview on Hitz FM on November 11, 2024, Ras Kuuku highlighted how both he and Yaa Pono have been side-lined despite their significant contributions to the industry.
Ras Kuuku pointed out that he has played a key role in grooming numerous artistes, but many have failed to acknowledge his support once they gain fame.
"There are a lot of artistes in the country I helped groom, but once they made it, they didn’t recognize me. Even before Ebony became popular, Bullet called me once to feature on a song with his new artist. Yaa Pono has also done a lot for others, but has he received the appreciation he deserves?" Ras Kuuku said.
The reggae/dancehall musician also confidently stated that he is currently the best live performer in the country.
"When it comes to performance in Ghana, I am the best. I haven’t had the chance to showcase this as much as I should, but when it comes to performing with a live band or even on a beat, no one comes close," he added.
Ras Kuuku’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges faced by some of Ghana’s older and pioneering musicians in securing the recognition they believe they deserve.
