It was hailed, some even said it surely was going to be better than 2013 and indeed it turned out quite well for some whiles others wished they had not encountered it, for 2014 can be said to be the year which had its own mind and behaved accordingly.
Year 2014 certainly did allow icy unrelenting death to snatch the life out of some prominent and popular Ghanaians including Komla Dumor, Irene Asante, Odompo, Sima Ibrahim, Fennec Okyere, Ronny Coaches, Gladys Asmah and the mother of Majid Michel.
On the arrest front, 2014 facilitated the capture of cocaine courier Ruby Gyemfi aka Naa Ayele Amartepe, musician Kwaw Kese and media veteran Kwesi kyei Darkwa.
It however offered respite when Sarkodie grabbed an award at the Headies.
4syte Music Video Awards also rewarded some artistes but not without controversy as did the yearly Ghana Music Awards.
Movie guys such as Majid, Nadia, Jackie and Yvonne, Lilwin and Kweku Manu got recognition at either the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice awards, Kumawood Akoben Movie awards or the Ghana Movie awards.
Edem did well for himself this year with his Books and Rhymes album whose launch fetched him good money. Kofi Nti offered a great video for his song ‘Adoma’ as did R2Bees for the ‘Lobi’ song. Criss Waddle scored high marks for his video ‘Pepeepe’ as well.
Lauryn Hill Live show, Tigo Unplugged show, Becca Girl Talk show, Saminifest, D2R2014 show, Okyeame Kwame Versatile show and the Chale Wote fair all went down well.
Ama Boahemaa did get her spot in the sun for her bleaching, Obinim and Afia Schwarzenegger faced off, Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers clenched fists. We got to know Yvonne’s new catch John the Ivorian thanks to Bola Ray at the 4syte Music Video awards where Yvonne and Nikki showed flesh or should I say boobs as well.
Interestingly enough Nelson, Okoro, Buari, Appiah all celebrated their birth ceremonies days apart. Kafui Danku, Juliet Ibrahim, Zynell Zuh, Joselyn Dumas, Lydia Forson and D-Black premiered their movies.
On the theme of marriage, Naa Ashorkor, KOD, Bobie Ansah, Cox Tamakloe, Umaru Sander Amadu, Sammy Ablodepey, Suhuyini Alhassan, Funny Face, Dj Mensah and Flow King all got married.
Kacey Moore and M’am Bea represented Ghana at the Big Brother reality show with M’am Bea advancing to the last stage.
Sex scandals rocked the state featuring Itz Tiffany, the Tamale pimp, Tetteh’s son and Pro Vice’s daughter.
Television stations battled to show how many awards they scooped at either the GJA awards, RTP awards or the Television awards.
Togbe emerged winner of the MTN hitmaker show with veteran Chris scooping the ultimate prize at the Vodafone Icons show.
The year was particularly kind to Pappy kojo, Joey B, Peace Hyde, MzVee, Stonebwoy, Episode and Ras kuuku as well as veterans Samini and Shatta Wale.
Nana Quame made a comeback with ‘Akye’ featuring Samini. Good old Yogi Dogi resurfaced with ‘Buwupa’ as did Root Eye with ‘Heaviest Rain’.
Majid helped the police to track down his impersonator. He also won an award at the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA) as did Frank Rajah and Kwame Boadu.
Lilwin did show us how far he’s come with display of his wife, kid, home and ride in a video. Manifest put in a lot of work collaborating with Obrafuor, Kru Kid and Coptic.
Sark’s collabo with Shatta Wale and Samini was awesome. Charter House’s lawsuit against Shatta also made for a test case as did Bull Dog’s arrest and release on suspicion of having a hand in Fennec’s death.
A mysterious band named Dark Suburb also emerged but the biscuit no doubt has to do with Castro’s disappearance or death. Whiles some hold that companion Janet Bandu is dead; the rumour mill suggests Castro is alive but in hiding, some spiritualist however maintain the two beings are deceased.
