'Young actors appear once or twice in movies and think they're celebrities' - Veteran actress

Veteran Ghanaian actress Akosua Abdallah has voiced her disapproval of the trend among young Ghanaian actors who quickly label themselves as celebrities after appearing in just one or two movies.

In an exclusive interview with Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, the renowned actress, known for her role in the beloved Inspector Bediako series, expressed her views on the evolving perception of fame in the industry.

"For the young people, appearing in a movie once or twice makes them think they have become celebrities. We, at our time never even used the word celebrity. We were just happy, go-lucky people doing the things that we loved so much.

Referring to contemporary red-carpet events, she added, "When you invite me to an event and you tell me there's going to be a red carpet, I freak out. That's not me and I am not coming," she retorted.

Akosua Abdallah also raised concerns about the modern fashion choices of celebrities, particularly their tendency to reveal parts of their bodies that should be concealed, per the Ghanaian culture.

"I think there is too much to reveal with these young people, everything is defining the laws of gravity (pointing to the boobs and butt), checking the upstairs and the downstairs," she added.

She emphasized that such fashion trends do not align with Ghanaian culture, describing them as overly influenced by Western norms.

"This is Africa, this is Ghana, we do have our own culture. We do have our own sense of beauty. I don't believe in throwing everything out there. No! It's so Hollywood-like," she added.

Akosua Abdallah's remarks highlight her perspective on the evolving standards of fame and fashion in Ghanaian entertainment, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and modesty.
