Beautiful actress Yvonne Nelson today added another year to her years on earth and she will definitely be thanking God for the gift of life, having survived numerous controversies and reported attempts on her life.
She has not stated her plans for the special day but there are strong indications of her hanging out with friends or perhaps going on set. “Two days to my birthday, 12-11-12, what to do hmmm…ermm…any ideas guys?” she asked her fans on her facebook fan page few days ago.
Last year, she celebrated the day in Paris with her best pal Yvonne Okoro. Yvonne is no doubt one of Ghana’s busiest actresses in the last few years. She has distinguished herself as an iconic actress of great respect and influence.
She is an award winning actress, excellent at what she does and is also business oriented. Her emergence on Ghana’s movie scene has immensely contributed to the new paradigm shift in the current African film industry.
In 2010, she was adjudged Ghana’s Favourite Actress at the prestigious Ghana Movie Awards and the Face of Ghana’s Best Actress 2011/2012 in the United States of America.
She was also nominated twice at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) and adjudged Africa’s Best Actress at the 2012 Africa Entertainment Award in Malaysia.
In 2009, she was named Joy Fm Nite with the Stars Best Actress. She picked Ghana’s Best Actress Award at the August 2011 City People Awards. Prior to that, her song about glaucoma picked up a prize at Ghana Music Awards. Yvonne has also left an indelible mark in the minds of many, not only as an actress but an entrepreneur.
She produced the current record breaking African movie, ‘Single & Married’ and also has a number of businesses in Accra including two fashion shops named ‘YN Closet Fashion Shops’. The shop has latest designer wears from around the world and from local designers as well. Yvonne owns YN Movie Productions with movie credits.
Less than two years ago, Yvonne launched YN Hairline which introduced lace wigs and human hair collections into Ghana’s market. At the time, the wigs were very new in Ghana. Currently Yvonne is working hard to expend her business venture to other parts of the country and Africa.
A former Miss Ghana contestant, she burst onto the movie scene with a big-screen role in ‘Princess Tyra’ after a supporting role in ‘The Return of Beyonce.”
She has quickly become a household name on the African continent. Yvonne has proved her versatility as an actress by starring in a number of Ghanaian and Nigerian movies, including ‘Prince Pride’, ‘Girls Connection’, ‘Playboy’, and ‘Golden Adventure’.
As part of her efforts to give back to society, she launched her Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation in 2010 to educate the public on the harmful effects of the eye ailment.
She hails from Cape Coast in the Central Region. She had her basic education at St. Martin De Porres in Dansoman, Accra. She then continued to Aggrey Memorial High School and the Central University College, where she read Human Resource Management. She is also into designing.
