In 2010, Replay announced their arrival on the local music scene, releasing two hot singles Simi Rap Remix and Wonkoaa. Fast forward six years and Zed Ay Kay, one half of the Replay duo made his solo debut with Stop My Love.

Stop My Love is a remake of the old Felix Owusu Highlife Classic featuring Felix Owusu himself and produced by Oteng, with a modern twist. This song served as a “sit up and listen” song for all the Zed Ay Kay, and in fact Replay fans who had waited patiently to hear something new.

Zed Ay Kay’s absence from the music scene for such a long at time, especially as it happened when Replay was gaining traction and enjoying regular air play might seem odd, but there was a reasonable explanation for it. He had been in France completing a University degree in French.

“Although my passion has always and firmly been in music, I knew the importance of gaining an education, and although the timing may not have been right, I had to give priority to my education, because I knew I could always return to music”. Those who may have missed Zed Ay Kay’s debut single Stop My Love, and quite a few people did, were in for a pleasant surprise when he released his second single Lemonade.

Lemonade has a slow melodic groove which will leave you pressing the repeat button over and over again. It features Dahlin Gage and YaaPono, and produced by Guilty Beatz. “There was an element of nerves and apprehension when I released Stop My Love, after being away for so long and almost having to start all over again, especially as a solo artiste, but once it was released and I started getting positive feedback it was business as usual. So I was able to go harder with Lemonade which is doing very well”.

Lemonade is gaining regular air play, on multiple radio stations, and could go on to do big things on the music scene, but like Zed Ay Kay explains, ” Lemonade is not the sort of song you will hear in your local joint, it is more of a chilled out, relaxed, classy joint sort of tune”. Just before we could catch our breath, Zed Ay Kay has already announced the release of his third single “Ghetto Feeling” which features Serocee, and Italo Skarcha, two well respected artistes in the UK reggae dancehall scene.

Zed Ay Kay seems to be making a point of demonstrating his Versatility, with his first three singles. They feature 3 different genres of music, and variety of artistes from both home and abroad. It is therefore no surprise that he has aptly named his debut album ‘VERSATILITY’, due to be released in December 2016.

For all Zed Ay Kay fans, there is a lot more to come, with features from well known artistes such as FOKN Bois and Kumi Guitar, new artiste such as Omo Fuji, and a host of overseas artistes, not to mention the fact that we are in for a few surprises. This year looks set to be the year Zed Ay Kay arrived on the Ghana Music scene.
