Rare spectacle of two vultures hanging on electrical cable

Asamankese, June 5, GNA - A large crowd gathered behind the Asamankese Market on Thursday, the main market day, to watch a rare spectacle of two vultures hanging on a string attached to an electrical cable.

While one had its head trapped by the string the other had one of its legs effectively hooked on to the string close to the first. As the birds made strenuous but fruitless efforts to free themselves, the large crowd of mostly traders and other onlookers watched in awe.

Many in the crowd shouted in response to the efforts of the vultures to free themselves from the grip of the string. The shouts attracted an even larger crowd as a vehicle of the Electricity Company of Ghana arrived on the scene with a worker of the company armed with a long pole, who cut the string to free the vultures. The birds only managed to fly a few metres before falling dead. Some of the onlookers attributed the incident to witchcraft. Many of them were amazed at the occurrence with one of the onlookers exclaiming, "wonders will never end", as they wondered how the string could trap the two birds at the same spot.
