The hip life superstars, 2004 hip life artists of the year, winners of several awards, VIP, in the U.S. for the first time to perform at this year?s NCOGA annual picnic and concert on August 5, 2006, paid a courtesy call to his Excellency, the Consul General Obeng Gyan Busia, at his office at the Ghana Mission in New York.
The visit, arranged by Alhaji Mohammed Mardah, the Secretary General of the National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA), gave the group the opportunity to interact with the Consul General and his staff.
The Consul General welcomed the group and he congratulated them on their successful career. He surprised them by naming every single album they had made since they hit the music scene, indicating his appreciation for their music and how big a fan he was.
He added that he was extremely delighted to have the opportunity to see them perform live at this year?s NCOGA picnic in Orange County, New York.
Hashim Haruna, manager of the group in New York, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception accorded the group by his Excellency. He remarked that VIP always pays a courtesy call to the government official of any country they visit, and they were delighted to be in New York for the first time.
He added that they had appeared on ?The African Show?, hosted by Dr. Nii Nartey on WKCR-FM 89.5 FM, and they were extremely grateful for the warmth and support exhibited by Ghanaians in New York.
Joining the Consul General during the visit, Minister Counselor to the Ghana Mission, Nana Kwasi Arhin, advised the group to keep working hard, and be role models for the young ones coming, considering the fact that they were from Nima in Accra (an area considered a ghetto by some)
Alhaji Mardah, speaking on behalf of NCOGA, thanked the Consul General for all his support to the Council, and also for the warm reception despite the short notice.
He urged the group to strive for excellence and keep making music with international appeal. He thanked the group for accepting to perform at this year?s picnic despite their busy schedule, and Ghanaians would be very appreciative of their efforts and desire to perform here in New York. ?The National Council would always be here to support you in all your endeavors, just as you supported the Council?, Alhaji Mardah added.
At the end of the visit, the group signed an autograph poster for the Consul General and also presented their latest album ?MY LOVE?, due to be released in September, as well as their 2004 hit album ?Ahomka Womu? (which earned the hip life artists of the year) to his Excellency and Nana Kwasi Arhin.
They described the latest album as truly international, having collaborated with artists from all over Africa, and one of their best efforts so far.
