Chiraa(B/A), July 19, GNA - The police at Chiraa in the Brong Ahafo region have arrested a young woman who allegedly cursed, insulted and poured water on Madam Agatha Sapaku, assistant headmistress of Chiraa Methodist Primary "A".

Madam Sapaku had requested the woman Mama Konkomba to pay for water she had fetched from the school's borehole.

The police have granted the suspect an enquiry bail and ordered her to reverse the curse.

Speaking to newsmen, Madam Sapaku said the suspect owed the school 8,000 cedis for water she had fetched and when she (Sapaku) queried the suspect, she became annoyed and poured water on her after cursing and insulting her.

Madam Sapaku was interacting with newsmen after an emergency meeting by the School Management Committee (SMC) at Chiraa on Wednesday. The meeting was held to discuss the rehabilitation of the school that is posing danger to both teachers and pupils.

All the pillars supporting the building are hanging loosely with a large crack on one of the walls of the classrooms.

Nana Opare Ameyaw, Chairman of the SMC said the committee was negotiating with the Japanese Embassy in Accra for assistance to under the rehabilitation.

He noted that due to the Capitation grant introduced by the government, parents were hesitant to pay levies instituted by SMC's and Parent-Teacher-Associations (PTA's).

Nana Ameyaw stressed the need for the public to be educated that the grant did not cover all the needs of school children. He called on the Ghana Education Service and stakeholders in education to use the media and other avenues to educate parents to live up to their responsibilities towards educating their children. Meanwhile the SMC has employed a night security guard to protect the school's properties after closure and during vacation due to rampant pilfering of such properties and distasteful activities of some youth on the school compound.
