Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - The Police at La in Accra want three Fetish Priestesses to revoke a curse they pronounced on some Police Officers, who refused to release suspects they had detained. The Priestesses allegedly stripped naked, poured schnapps on the ground, smashed eggs and invoked the spirit of the area. Speaking to the GNA on Friday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adane-Ameyaw Nyamekye, La District Police Commander, condemned the act and said it constituted gross disrespect of the Police Service. He said the Police was looking for the Priestesses to get them to revoke the curse.

Giving a background to the pronunciation of the curse, ASP Nyamekye said two Police Officers, Chief Inspector Sasu Mensah and Constable Kofi Mityikrah were on September 1 detailed to go to a funeral ground at La because there had been reports of stealing during funerals in the area. He said the Policemen, who were in mufti, parked their car at a point but a van, which had been parked, rolled into it and damaged it and when they attempted to look for Ali Mohammed, the driver of the van, some of the mourners assaulted them.

ASP Nyamekye said the Police Officers called for reinforcement and Elias Okyere Odoi, who had assaulted and torn the clothes of Chief Inspector Sasu Mensah and manhandled Constable Kofi Mityikrah was arrested.

He said Rudolf Ala Adjetey, an accomplice of Odoi, followed up to the Police Station with some of the mourners and demanded the release of his colleague but the Police declined. Subsequently the Police arrested Adjetey also.

ASP Nyamekye said later in the day, the three Fetish Priestesses followed up to the Police Station to curse the Police.

The La Police Commander said the La Kpan Wulomo and another man came to plead but he had insisted that those three Priestesses should return to the Police Station to revoke the curse.

ASP Nyamekye said Odoi and Adjetey had since been released on Police enquiry bail.
